Dear Friends and Supporters...
Exciting news this month... People and Events!
What's inside:
Cam
Cam's dad recently made a point of thanking us all. He said the bike collective has been monumental for his son. Cam has autism and high levels of anxiety and really struggles in the classroom.
But Cam has thrived in the Bike Collective. He loves working with his hands and his dad was so grateful and thankful for the program.
He has shown little interest in actually riding bikes until just recently when he had saved enough credits to earn a bike for himself... He was so excited to get it, he was calling his parents every 5 minutes until he knew they could come in to pick it up!
D'Arcy
D'Arcy has been involved in the Clarence Plains Bike Collective since the beginning of the year. He has been working on focus and stretching himself, with new challenges and goals.
A big area of growth for D'Arcy has been in the social environment of the workshop. D'Arcy says he looks forward to coming to the Bike Collective because he feels safe and is always learning something new.
Caitlyn
Caitlyn has been a crew member of the Risdon Vale Bike Collective since mid year and has consistently demonstrated a desire to learn new things and give things a go, even when it feels uncomfortable. Her personal circumstances have required her to find her own accommodation and she has been actively seeking work to support herself. A tough gig for a 16 year old, but she's committed and focused to improving her life.
After we became aware of her search for work, we approached a local landscaping company who are expanding rapidly and who are always on the look out for people keen to learn with a 'can do' attitude. We had no reservations about recommending Caitlyn to the company and after the usual selection process, Caitlyn was offered a position with the company. While she was fairly new to the RVBC, her participation demonstrated her hidden strengths and gave us the confidence to approach an external company and recommend her to them. A great result but one well earned. Best of luck, Caitlyn!
Come along and be a part of the first ever TasBC Cycle Challenge! A fun, family friendly event that you can do with friends, the kids, mates, workmates, or even by yourself.
Take up the challenge of the 3-hour relay or solo event, with the goal of doing as many laps as possible and raising funds for the Bike Collective.
Here's some of what you can look forward to...
Entries open very soon... so get your team together for a great day!

It is with heaviness that we share that Anthony, one of our Huon Valley Bike Collective program managers, has decided to take a step back for a while.
It has been an honour to have Anthony as part of the Bike Collective team for the best part of 3 years. After starting as a volunteer and then stepping into running the program in the Huon Valley, Anthony's sense of duty, deep integrity and clear desire to leave the world in a better state than he found it have left an incredible legacy and lasting impact on the many students he has worked alongside.
It was amazing to see just how many kids have been involved and wanted to come and say thanks and wish Anthony all the best.
We too wish him all the best! And give him a wave if you see him on his bike with his faithful companion Tess (who is also going to be missed).
Paul has just come on board with the Huon Valley Bike Collective bringing an eclectic mix of skills from many roles within health, social care, education and the corporate world.
A recent arrival from the mainland, Paul loves living in the Huon Valley and after 2.5 years living in the Northern Territory, is genuinely excited by rain and cold weather!
When not working Paul is a keen mountain biker, hiker and climber. He is excited to combine the two passions of his life, bikes and helping young people and is looking forward to developing and growing the work of the HVBC.
A couple of weeks ago we held our first Weekend Sale for 2023/2024. As you might know, we are now open to the public every Tuesday, and there hasn't been a need for weekend sale days during the quieter winter season.
But we're back up and running! We sold over 40 bikes at this first sale... and there's another one coming soon. If we still have any stock to sell, we'll do a third just before Christmas. So mark these dates in your diaries...
Come and check out our range of super classy looking BRAND NEW kids' bikes, from $225 (12") ... a deposit will secure one for you, and we'll store it and build it for you just in time for Christmas! (See story below)
How good does this look? We're super proud of our latest creation and can't wait to see them on the streets and around the trails.
Every single dollar of the profits go back into our Bike Collective youth programs... so go for it!
They will be available very soon for $35 each at the following outlets in lots of sizes:
Are you looking for a brand new Christmas bike for the kids or grandkids? What if you could buy a brand new bike at a great price and support the work of the Bike Collective all at once? You can!
The Bike Collective have these great looking kids bikes available now, or pre-order for Christmas with a 20% deposit.
Each bike comes fully assembled by professional mechanics and are ready to ride... and we can store your bikes for you and you can pick them up the week before Christmas.
And the best bit… all profits are put back into supporting local young people who need it most!
